A George III carved giltwood chimneypiece attributed to Matthias Lock.
This extraordinary work of art corresponds in almost every detail to a design by Matthias Lock, published in 1752 and reissued by the London publisher Robert Sayer in 1768, and is to date the only known realisation of that drawing.
The chimneypiece retains the original white veined marble surround and has replaced 19th century mirror plates. The surround was gilded in the early 1990s.
