An exceptional quality and highly important pair of late 18th century Chinese export polychrome decorated clay nodding figures of an elderly lady and elderly man dressed in traditional Chinese robes retaining almost all the original decoration painted in bright colours with fine gold highlights each holding a gnarled staff.
Note: These extraordinary figures are recorded twice in the collection of Count Liljenkrantz first in 1788 at Sturehof Castle, Sweden and again in 1815 at Norsborg, Sweden.
Similar Chinese figures can be seen in the portrait of Queen Charlotte by Johann Zoffany of 1764 showing the vogue for Chinese figures at court not only in Europe by here in England also.
