A very unusual mid 18th century Chippendale period mahogany cased ship model on a chest stand, the rectangular case with a glazed top and six side panels and carved moulded base containing a polychrome and gilt painted detailed model of the French frigate "Le Vainqueur" standing on a supporting chest stand with two short drawers and three graduated long drawers with brass swan neck handles and side carrying handles, the base with a carved and foliate moulding standing richly carved foliate bracket feet with cartouche carving to the knees.

    Commissioned by the Whatman Family, who owned the 'Le Vainqueur' having captured it in battle, for their house Vintners, Maidstone, Kent until sold with the contents in 1950s.
