A late 19th century aesthetic movement ormolu mounted satinwood kidney desk, having a satinwood cross banded top with purpleheart line retaining the original red morocco leather insert and pierced ormolu gallery at the back and an ormolu mounted ebonised moulded edge above a shallow central drawer in the frieze flanked by a bank of four graduated drawers each side retaining the original ebonised and ormolu mounted knob handles, the panelled knee hole exquisitely inlaid with ebony and purpleheart stringing and mounted with foliate ormolu mouldings, the curved sides conformingly treated, the reverse with two fixed ormolu mounted shelves; on an ormolu mounted moulded plinth base with concealed castors.
Note: This kidney desk is made to the highest standard using only the best materials and has survived in outstanding original condition.

Literature: M. Harris & Sons, ‘June Exhibition 1975’, pp. 12/13, a kidney desk of virtually identical design and probably from the same workshop.
