The inspiration for this mirror comes from Matthias Lock’s designs, and in particular from the title page and plate 6 of his A Book of Ornaments.
The mirror was discussed by R. W. Symonds in an article in Apollo magazine in the 1930s. Symonds was at that time the leading adviser to some of the most important collections of English furniture.
Note: The mirror plate is an 18th century replacement; the frame has been re-gilded.
