This exceptionally rare ewer is so far the only example known to exist that follows Matthew Boulton's design precisely and has the central horizontal ormolu band applied to the Blue John body.
According to Goodison there are a further 7 ewers known to exist.  A documented pair made for the Earl of Sefton in 1772 is in the Gerstenfeld collection in Washington, a further pair is in the collection of the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Soho House and the remaining 3 ewers are in private collections.
Note: The top of the spout and the handle are restorations.
