A Regency ormolu mounted and parcel gilt octagonal rosewood centre table attributed to Marsh, Tatham, Bailey & Saunders.
Note: The table retains all the original metal mounts and some of the original gilding.
There are similar tables recorded, one formerly at Normanton Park, Rutland, and illustrated in The Dictionary of English Furniture. The Normanton table differs by incorporating a book compartment in the frieze. A table at Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire, is almost identical apart from an ebonised moulding, which on our table has been executed in brass instead.
A table formerly in Queen Victoria's bedroom at Windsor Castle shares the same winged giltwood paw feet as the previous exampls, but resting on a triform base instead of a quatrefoil base. Its coloumn, like that of all the other examples, if fluted and parcel gilt. The Windsor table is circular, with eight drawers in the frieze.
All four tables are veneered with richly figured Brazilian rosewood.
