The pedestals retain the original ‘Antique Green’ marble and have acquired a beautiful mellow colour. A drawing by Thomas Chippendale published in the 3rd edition of the Director relates to the design of the pedestals. Wright and Elwick were subscribers to the Chippendale publication, and they often used his designs for their commissions, adding their own interpretation of the design. In this case two of the pedestal designs drawn by Chippendale have been combined.
