A GEORGE II CARVED MAHOGANY TRIPOD TABLE, English, circa 1745

A rare and unusual mid 18th century carved mahogany tripod table having a circular tip-up top with birdcage action and a baluster turned gallery with brass line inlay; on a baluster column with gadrooned knop with egg and dart carving below on three arched splay legs with acanthus carving terminating in claw and ball feet.
The distinct drawing of the legs, a very unusual feature and rarely seen, can be compared to the base of a fire screen formerly in the well documented Percival D. Griffiths collection and illustrated in R.W. Symonds ‘English Furniture from Charles II to George II ' and another tripod table discussed and illustrated in an article by Symonds in the Antique Collector Magazine .
