Moses Lafount, a Huguenot émigré from France, took out a patent numbered 2153 for his unusual chandelier design in 1796. The drawing included with the patent is virtually identical to these chandeliers. The centre receiving plates are stamped ‘LAFOUNT PATENT’ and numbered 1170 and 1171 respectively.
