A pair of Irish George II mahogany side tables in the  manner of William Kent.

An exceptionally rare and important pair of mid 18th century carved mahogany side tables in the manner of William Kent, each retaining the original rectangular solid mahogany tops with an applied moulded plate rest to the back, above a break front frieze applied with Greek key band and a flower head carved moulded edge; on slender corner truss legs with trailing leaf decoration terminating in acanthus headed block feet.

Note: These tables have survived in virtually untouched condition and retain their original varnish finish. The distinctive truss legs reminiscent of elements in architecture, typical for William Kent influenced furniture can be found with various makers of their time including Mayhew and Ince as well as Matthias Lock. A firm attribution to a maker can not be made, however.
