A pair of George II parcel gilt terms by James Richards, the design attributed to William Kent.

Note: The gadrooned tops and lower part of the bases are restorations.

The terms retain virtually all the original oil gilding and paint surface. A pair of giltwood terms of almost identical design were illustrated at Raynham Hall, Norfolk, England, by Country Life magazine in 1908. These terms also feature the same unusual wings and shell crestings and gadrooned tops. James Richards supplied virtually all the interior carvings for Raynham Hall between 1729 and 1730.
