Foreword
We are delighted to publish our exciting new catalogue despite the huge challenge of putting it together during lockdown.
You will notice that some of the descriptions and research are less detailed than usual. I apologise for this, but with many research facilities (including libraries, archives and stately homes) closed, and with researchers, curators, photographers and many other working remotely, it has been a significant achievement to create such an important and varied catalogue.
There are so many interesting and appealing items here that I am not going to give my favourites or guide you in any particular direction for the furniture; but I have to draw your attention to the amazingly rare and important pair of life-size bronze dogs on page 100.
Sadly, the Masterpiece Fair will again not take place this year, but on these pages you have a chance to see many of the items that we would have saved to show there.
As always, I wish to thank all my staff for their hard work both in the gallery and remotely, especially under recent difficulties.
