A very rare pair of early 18th-century pier glasses, the central arched upper plate above a rectangular plate, mirrored and channelled outer border frame with an engraved shaped cresting, the central bevelled and original plates surrounded by straight sides and apron with sectional channelled border glass frame edges. 
The extravagance of the glass borders obviated the need for an elaborate frame, as this rare pair illustrate. An unusual detail that underlines the quality of these pier glasses is the double bevel of the border glass plates.
