A highly important mid 18th century sabicu commode of bombe shape attributed to John Cobb, having a serpentine shaped top with moulded edge above three graduated drawers retaining the original ornate swan-neck handles and escutcheons, having a shaped frieze and shaped sides applied with the original carrying handles; on splay feet retaining the original sabots.
Note: Related commodes attributed to the workshop of Cobb are the well documented St. Giles House commodes which share the same outline of the current commode but are veneered in lacquer, the handles, however are identical.
Other commodes include a set of three at Burghley in Lincolnshire and in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York as part of the Untermeyer bequest.
